The Ship

If complete bliss is the destination, Koningsdam is the journey. Fluid lines, light-filled spaces, and a blend of 21st-century elegance and nautical tradition dazzle at every turn. The ship abounds with innovative dining and entertainment options. Head to B.B. King’s Blues Club for Memphis R&B, take in visually stunning entertainment at World Stage, revisit classic hits at Billboard Onboard, and head to the Rolling Stone Lounge for the best in rock music.  There’s so much to see and do on Koningsdam, the first of the cruise ships in Holland America Line's Pinnacle Class.

Our quilting space will be located on the Deck 1.  Room will be available 24/7.

The Quilting

You have a number of options!

  • Bring your own project / UFOs.   You may bring whatever project you are currently working on, whether it is paper piecing or not!  However ... if you are a BEGINNER to foundation paper piecing, please do NOT use this as an opportunity to choose your own pattern and expect to start from scratch.  Beginners will need to choose the Geodes pattern - but you may have a kit coloured in whatever colours that you like.

  • Taught classes:

-  Turtle Island (99" x 99") - for those with some experience of Quiltworx projects.  Shown left above.

-  Geodes (68" x 68" - I think - this is not published yet!  Expandable to a larger size).  Shown right above.  This brand new pattern is great for beginners.

FAQs

  • Sewing Machines:  You will need to bring your own – a small one is preferable as you will be sharing a 8ft x 30” table with one other person.  (I use my Featherweight all the time!)

  • Quilt Stores:  YES! There are some wonderful quilt stores to visit in Hawaii!  We will provide you with information on how to get there.  You will likely be able to share a taxi with a group of us.

  • Party size:  Limited to 20 quilters maximum to ensure that you get personal attention.

  • Kits, patterns and quilting supplies:  If you order a pattern, it will be sent to you in advance, with instructions on how to cut your papers. If you order a kit, it will be shipped to you in advance.

  • Will I have to go to the quilting room ALL the time?:  NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT!  This is your cruise, your class. If you miss anything in class because you want to go for a swim, spa, or walk around the deck with camera in hand, Anne will go over what you have missed when you are ready.

  • What is included:   There’s no getting away from it – cruising is expensive, and CruisePlus has set up a payment plan. More details are available from our cruise specialist, Fiona.

    • 17 nights accommodation

    • Coffee / tea / water and cookies in the quilting room

    • Sewing room available 24/7, on Deck 1.  The room is locked when not in use.

    • Meals and onboard entertainment (some optional dining choices may incur extra charges)

    • Gratuities and port fees

  • Dining options:  You will not be confined to dining as one big group each evening, particularly if you are bringing a “significant other” (quilters en masse can be quite an intimidating prospect if you don’t know your fat quarters from your add-a-quarters). If some of you wish to dine as a group, tables can be requested on a day-by-day basis.  We all like to eat at different times and in different places.
